Meet the Author

Catherine is a Puerto Rican writer who has called the Bronx, Miami, Paris, and Toulouse home — sometimes all at once in her heart.

Raised between bodegas and beaches, between Spanish at the dinner table and English in the classroom, she grew up carrying two worlds inside her chest. Then she moved to France — first to Paris, then to Toulouse — and suddenly had three. She spent a long time standing at the intersection of all of them, wondering which one was really hers — and eventually realized the answer was all of them, and none of them, and that was exactly the story she needed to tell.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Caribbean Studies — because at some point the longing became academic, and she needed to understand her roots not just in her bones but on paper too. That degree did not give her belonging but it gave her language for what she had been feeling her whole life.

She is an 8th grade ELA teacher by day — spending her days convincing teenagers that stories matter, that words have weight, and that the right book at the right moment can change everything. She believes that deeply because it happened to her.

Her debut novel Salt in the Blood is the first book in the Raices Series — a love letter to everyone who has ever felt too American for the island and too island for America. It is a story about salt water and soil, about the things our ancestors leave inside us before we ever get the chance to ask them questions, and about the long and complicated journey of coming home to yourself.

When she is not writing or teaching she is making handmade bookish goods through her shop Wildflower Ink Haus, building TBR piles she will never finish, and looking for a café con leche that comes close to the one she had in San Juan that one perfect morning.

She lives in Miami with too many books and not enough shelves.
